Montblanc 138 Fountain Pen Mint With Long Ink Window. All Original With Box
I have for your consideration a pristine MINT Montblanc 138 Masterpiece fountain pen dating from 1939-40 together with its original box. This is one of those rare opportunities to get a museum grade piece in this large size. Everything is as it should be and it has perfectly crisp imprints (note the crispness of the imprints on the mechanism and the absolutely perfect etched imprinting of the'Montblanc Meisterstuck' imprint on the cap top), glossy cap and barrel and rare steel 138 nib denoting it is from the early period of the War. The white star is perfectly white and glossy, no marks or stains. And it has the more desirable long ink window with light amber celluloid with black stripes. This is an early version of this model from c. 1939 as it has a steel nib, hard rubber cap top and mechanism and a long ink window and bright steel 245 nib. The pen looks stunning and has no issues, no cracks, no hairlines nor even any scratches at all. The telescopic piston filling mechanism works smoothly and crisply in the way that only virtually mint or NOS pens operate. The gold filled pocket clip and cap ring are pristine without any apparent brassing.
There are no signs of use and this pen has perhaps been dipped or partly filled once and then put aside for the rest of its 80+ years. The pen comes complete with an exceptional and rare original large box.
Number 138 pens are coveted by collectors and even harder to find than the 139 model due to shorter production period and numbers, but to find one in near mint + condition and with the correct box is really something special and uncommon. This pen is fitted with its correct flexible steel MONTBLANC no 245 many are found with 136 size nibs but not this one! The nib has a Fine (F) tip. The ebonite mechanism has 138 and F imprints as well as patent number. The pen has been recently overhauled professionally and given a good clean but the old cork seal was found to be perfect so left as is.
The pen is therefore ready to be used but I imagine it is far more likely to find a place in an important Montblanc collection. Do not pass up on this opportunity to acquire a top flight rarity from the vintage Montblanc oeuvre. I have listed many rare vintage pens including some true gems by Montblanc.
