The case containing Pvt Holbrooks Steel helmet which is complete with its liner & chinstrap and in VGC, his sidecap or overseas cap, his first aid bag with hand sewn Red Cross to the front, his folding fork & spoon and his Gas ointment in its metal tube. A khaki cloth bag for personal effects and a patterned bag with a Letter " H" to the front, Also his leather 1918 gaiters and a number of shirt collars for wear under the tunic, all maker marked and made in USA...... A boot/gaiter lace pull and lastly an original termination letter dated February 1919 from John J. Holbrock, Wagoner Infantry, Cas Co 2996, signed R. R Lewis, Captain Infantry Commanding. It read in part from GHQ, AEF... My Fellow Soldiers, Now that your service with the AEF is terminate , I can not let you go without a word. At the call to Arms the young manhood of America eagerly responded etce , etc, Whether keeping a lonely vigil in the trenches or gallantly storming the enemies stronghold , you have turned the tide into an over whelming victory, etc etc. In leaving the scene of your victories, may I ask that you carry home your high ideals, and continue to live as you have served, with honor.
